This is something I've always wondered. When young children (birth - 3 years say) are used in TV how do they not end up confused and challenged? They have their stage name and stage family and their own 'real life' name and family how are they able to cope? Calling an actor "dad" or "mom" and being called by thier stage name and having their real life names and relatives its something that's always puzzled me.

I've always thought the kids used on tv are always a little older than the roles they portray. Just like adults (30+ year olds playing hihgschool teenagers seems commonplace). A child playing a newborn always looks more like a yearling, and one playing a 3 year old always looks more like a 5 year old to me; this makes it easier to explain things and help the kid try to understand. But thereality is that most kids that get involved in tv and movies end up pretty messed up, probably for exactly the same reasons yuo're talking about. Who to listen to? Mommy? Daddy? Daddy number 2 or 3? TV Daddy? Or the Producer? Often times I think at least one of these people does not necessarily have the kids best interests at heart.
