I have a 1943 wheat penny thats made of steel or something because it sticks to magnets. Does it have any value or significance besides one cent.

What you have is a "steel cent". These were made during World War II when copper became a scarce resource. Copper is a highly valuable material for use in ammunition (brass is an alloy that contains large amounts of copper) and electrical wiring, and because copper is generally mined outside the United States, it became important to use some material other than copper.

It's value is based upon the condition and the mint it was produced in. Chances are, your cent isn't worth more than 25 cents, so I suggest you keep it and enjoy it as an interesting piece of history.

This penny will rust so keep it dry. Coin dealers sell inexpensive cardboard coin holders with clear plastic windows so you can see the front and back. You can probably buy one for about 10 cents. This will allow you to look at your coin and share it with others without damaging it.

Your 1943 cent is zinc coated steel. They were minted in Philadelphia ( 684,628,670 mintage), Denver ( 217,660,000 mintage ) and San Francisco ( 191,550,000 mintage ). The mint mark is below the date, no mark, coin was minted in Philadelphia, a D is Denver and an S is San Francisco. In low grades the coins are worth only a nickel or so and even in mint state a few dollars. Being very different most were saved. There also seems to be a variety with a bold doubled D that in high grade is Worth around $50.00 or so.

If it is uncirculated, it might bring about $1 but if it shows any wear or scratches, it will be about a dime.
In circulated condition, these are generally worth 5-10 cents apiece.

Very common worth at least $0.15 if undamaged just worn.

Still a cool coin.
