First, disregard the money issue.
Go to ALL the music shops in your town and try ALL the guitars they have.
Find the one that feels most comfortable for your fingers, your hand and sounds best to your ears.
You do NOT want to have to clutch the strings to the point of causing pain to your hand.
And you want something that sounds appealing to you.

To me, guitars are like wine...very subjective...what tastes (or sounds) great to me may not be the same for you.

Once you've tried out a variety (and definitely try the most expensive as well...for now, you can dream), then set a budget and shop around.
I picked up a great deal on eBay.
I've also bought good used guitars from the pawn shop.

For me, Taylor guitars are the "it" guitar (see link).
I own a 355 (12 string) and a 614ce.
Each one sounds different and brings true, unique color to my music.

But try ALL brands, ALL prices, in ALL locations.
It's all about what YOU like.
Good luck and happy picking!

Takamine, Yamaha, Gibson, Fender are some of the best. But you should try them at a music store and pick the one you like.
