Supposedly, according to the Mayan calendar this is supposed to be the end of time or the beginning of a new world. Does anyone know more info about this?

Crap!! That's on my b-day! I think the Mayans meant that it is a great world change ...yes, the beginning of a new era. Don't worry so much.

I do!
You have it half right.
12-21-2012 in our calendar is 13.00.00.00.00 in the Mayan Long Count. This is the first day of the 13th baktun (like our 1999-2000 transition but a baktun is 396 years long).
Also on this day, the winter solstice, there is a once in 26,000 year alignment between the Sun and the Milky Way at dawn. To the Maya this signified the Sun being reborn/a new world age.
I believe this "current" world age is already over and has been for 10-20 years.

There is no proof that the Mayans were actually pointing to the end of the world. This was just the end of the calendar. They had to stop somewhere and they figured we could just begin again. It's all cyclical. That may sound dumb, but that's what we were told at the Mayan ruins in Mexico by our guide.

The Mayan Calendar does not predict the end of world on Dec 12th 2012. The exact date of the end of the current Mayan Calendar is still a matter of debate amongst Mayan scholars, since the Mayan calendar is cyclical, although it is likely this Mayan Calendar (not the world) will end around Dec 21 2012.

There is a great paper available at http://www.dartmouth.edu/~izapa/M-32.pdf#search=%22December%2021%2C%202012%20site%3A.edu%22

Enjoy!

Ironically, Nostradamus predicted the end of Humanity will take place in the year 2012. He used the stars as a foundation to his predictions, as did the Mayans. And apparently, we are supposed to witness a battle of good versus evil roughly around that time frame, but symbologically. Scary stuff!!!

Actually they miscalculated this. Not taking into consideration the tenth planet that was destroyed by an asteroid which now makes up the Asteroid Belt. When we consider this planet it then extends the date to 2025. The Month and Day are correct according to inverse reversion. I think this correct, but, could be wrong.

The end of humanity, maybe. The end of the world, I doubt it. Please, don't be so foolish and arrogant as to believe that humans can destroy this planet. Humans can only destroy themselves. This planet has been around for a long time and will continue, with or without humans. We are but a scourge.

The comet "Wormwood" is going to hit on that date and distroy a third of mankind.
You will find wormwood in the Bible.
That's what some think.
I would write more but I have to go back to work.
