Processor, RAM, and the number of programs running at the same time. if you have a lot of little icons in the bottom right corner of your screen, your computer probably could be running faster if those programs weren't going.

Adding memory can make a system faster.
What makes it fast can be 1 thing or a combination.
If you have a good processor decent amount of ram good video card and a good hard drive it should work like a champ. But if you have some good parts and slow ones then its gona slow your system down.

Lyssa had the right idea. Click on the "My Computer" Icon on your desktop and there locate your C Drive. Right click once on it and go to its properties. There you can do a disk cleanup. After you have done that, go to the "Tools" tab and defragment your drive. This will make your current PC act s before....but if you want to make your current PC faster...simply add more RAM, Add a Graphics Card (so it does not use the internal memory) , play with the virtual memory setings, upgrade the CPU..or simply shop for a new PC
