I actually hate tatoos. My husband is covered with them. He got them all when he was in his teens and early twenties. Now, they make getting jobs difficult at times, people pre-judge him like he is a criminal--he isn't...we own our home, pay taxes, he sings our children to sleep at night...he is a good guy. But people do rush to judge him because of the tatoos.
Tatoos are forever...you can't ever really get them totally removed...and skin ages and sags...I worry sometimes what my husband will look like when we are much older. I don't care--I love him for a multitude of reasons that don't have to do with his appearance...but still--I thin people should really consider the ramifications of getting tatoos..and especially tatoos on parts of the body not easily covered by clothes.
Teenage boys are always coming up to my husband and telling him how cool his tatoos are--then my husband tells them he wishes he never got them and why.

I actually feel a little offended here. I have a tattoo, and I didn't take it because I wanted to be cool or anything, but because I think it looks good and it makes me feel unique, because nobody else in the entire world will ever have the exact same decoration on his or her body. Also, it doesn't look trashy or cheap or anything. Tattoos can be classy, stylish and really cool. You have to see the difference between some chick getting a tribal above her **** or a guy who think's he's cool if he gets a spiderweb on his elbow, and people who want to make themselves look more beautiful and unique or express some deep feelings with a tattoo.

I agree with you tatoos are nasty, for example i would never hire a guy/girl with a tatoo on my job, first they have too get my trust and that would be really really hard to do, trast me.
Ppl with tatoos make me think that they are dirty and maybe even using drugs.... ext. Also i dont feel safe with those ppl who have more than two piercings in their ears, especially if they have 10 piercing all over their body.

For the folks who judge people on something as superficial as a tattoo, it is a reflection of who you are...how you would stereo-type so easily. Simply because something is gaining wider social acceptance and you don't care for it is your prerogative. To go one step further and categorize someone on something so general is a testament to your ignorance in the matter.
Tattoos have been around for thousands of years, and are done for so many variety of reasons that making statements like "trashy, slutty"...is amazing, to me. Have you no respect for anything outside the American culture, anything that is different?
I think you folks should be embarrassed, but then that's just MY opinion...lol.

What if people felt that way about women who wear make up, dye their hair or get boob jobs? Getting a tattoo is an expression of the soul. Either to remember an event, a dream or a person.

I am tattooed and am very proud of the artwork displayed on my body and, no, I am not revolting against your statement about the look of tattoos. I am revolting against the obvious lack of education you had in your lifetime, against your quickness to judge others without first looking at yourself. That is what I don't like.

wow...that's pretty harsh. i don't have any tattoos, but i do think that people can decorate their bodies however they want to...and considering it's one of the oldest forms of body adornment, i think the assessment that they make people look trashy is a personal opinion.
it's no different than earrings or bracelets- some are kinda ugly, and some are very beautiful, but either way, it's expressing something about that person, which makes it beautiful in itself.

I don't have one but don't have a strong opinion, one way or the other. It's their body. If they want to pay/allow someone to use it as some sort of drawing media, so what.
I do question the wisdom of a facial/neck tattoo while in your 20's. I wonder when (not if) they will grow to regret that decision.

i have 3 tattoos, and i try to have them in discreet places where it is easy for me to cover up for work and such, and they are not in places which will 'shrivel up' like other spots on the body
personally, i like tattoos, though there are exceptions - 1. I hate word or name tattoos-they never look nice; 2. I dont like tats on female breasts or the head; and 3. there is such a thing as overdoing it
but i generally do find tattoos sexy on gals

I agree, I do not like tatoos either. They do make you look slutty, and it is following the crowd. The fastest growing plastic surgery is ....TATOO REMOVAL! What nuts!
