It may be that walking through the "wrong" side of a Stargate is no different than stepping into the "kawoosh" of the 'Gate, or being cut off from the destination's 'Gate in-transit: instant dispersal of the atoms (i.e. disintegration).

Another theory is that the opposite side would act as a barrier, and attempting entry from the "wrong" side would merely bounce someone off the event horizon.

The third theory (and most likely) is that the event horizon of a wormhole is basically a tear in the fabric of space-time, and as such has no 'right' or 'wrong' side... it's just THERE. Under this idea, you could enter a 'Gate from either side and still get to your destination correctly.

Unfortunately, as SG-1 has yet to explore this and modern theoretical astrophysics has yet to discover or create an actual, stable wormhole, we may never know.

Fanfiction authors, however, are free to follow whichever of the three theories best fits the needs of their story!

Both the two previous posters don't understand your question.
Basically, you are referencing the show Staragate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis. Now, from all the shows, the people enter the stargate on only a SINGLE side. It probably has been the easiest way to portray wormhole travel. However, if they were to enter on the other "side" of the event horizon, instead of the same side they ALWAYS enter on in the show, I don't think it would be possible to enter the worm hole. It would be like trying to walk throw a door backwards, when it only opens one way.

Stargates do not exist. Therefore you could have them do anything since it's all in your head.

If the gate is activated, there is no "back", just the part where you enter (where the time/matter/stream comes from). If the gate isn't activated, then there should be no effect.
