Words "ad hoc" are also used for temporary or meantime arrangement for some purpose. It is not the proper or regular arrangement but immediate action pending regular arrangement.

Ad-Hoc basically is something that you would do to specifically complete a task that is new. Taken from the Latin language.
Like I created a ad hoc report to highlight sales figures.
Something you would do that some other systems may not already produce so I created an ad hoc report.

Maybe it's a coincidence, in my language (Romanian) ad-hoc means something that is designed for a specific purpose.
