I have a friend who is under the impression that wario is marios cousin, as waluigi is luigis cousin. I laughed at the idea, though my other friend claims its true to. I tried doing some research, though I cant seem to find anything...so are mario and wario at all related to eachother? Which of us is right?

Nintendo had never ever said anything about Wario and Mario being related.
I only know that Luigi is Mario's brother and Waluigi is Wario's brother.
This is more confusing than the time that Brooklyn is linked to the Mushroom kingdom.

Well I know that Wario and Waluigi are brothers. They are just like Mario and Luigi only more extreme. Mario is the fat brother so Wario is morbidly obese while Luigi is tall and thinner so Waluigi is super tall and practically anorexic. I think it is very possible that Wario and Waluigi are Mario and Luigi's cousins. However, I think it depends on what game you look at. Some Mario games don't include all the characters since many characters (such as Waluigi, Wario, and Daisy) are relatively new. In your research, you might want to look up the games around when Wario and Waluigi were first introduced to the Mario characters. It may give you a clue as to their relationship. Good luck! And tell me what you find because now I want to know if there is a definite relation between Wario and Mario!

You could say that they are cousins, but it's not completely fact. They may be just arch nemesises. Just 'cause they're "alike" doesn't mean they are close, it's they way of the Mario plot.
