He played 12 years in the Major Leagues with the Phillies from 1973 to 1975, the White Sox from 1976 to 1977, the A's from 1978 to 1980, the White Sox again in 1981, the Mariners in 1982, the Indians in 1983, and again with the A's in 1984. He had a .244 career batting average with 33 home runs and 207 RBI in his career.

Yep, Played for the Phillies, White Sox, A's, Mariners and Indians in the 70's and 80's. Mostly caught. Yeah I'd heard of him, but had to look him up for any details. Source below.

He also managed the Cubs in 1991 to a NL East fourth place finish

Essian was a catcher I believe. He was also a manager someplace, can't remember. Not a big name player.

he played for the phillies for 3 seasons then for the white sox for 2, then for the athletics for 4 again with the white sox for 1 then mariners indians and athletics for 1 season each
