In what is now America, there are all types of people. While there are people like that, not all are that way. However, while in movies they do exaggerate somewhat sometimes, there are all types of people. In my school for instance, I have classified seven major groups:
-Preps: They always dress with classy stuff, and they usually think they are better than everyone else. Most are girls, and ost act like the classical dumb blonde, though they arent all mean and stuff.
-Nerds: While in my school nerds aren't picked upon, they are considered ''nerds''. They are just smarter than everyone else, and are the ones who pay attention in class. They don't dress or act like the stereotype in movies, though.
-Sports/Jocks: They are not usually stuck up, but htey can sometimes be. They are among the most popular, and area always involved in some type of sport.
-Emos: Goths, punks, you name it. they usually dress in black and always hang out in their groups. They are not necessarily like pot addicts and stuff, but they do usually say dark things.
-Gangsters: Yes, my school there are gangbangers, some real, but most wannabes. They always hang out together, and sometimes dress like skaters, but they always act like in a movie based in some ''ghetto''
-Normal People: Easy to get along with. They respect most everyone, though they have their own groups of friends to hang with. Like half my school is composed of these people.
-Outcasts/The ones that don't mix in: Video Game geeks, rednecks, overly self-obsessed political guys, and others fit into this category. They usually hang in groups with almost always the same people throughout the school year.
However, what you usually see in places is different degrees of these things, and people sometimes mix between the ''groups''. For example you see few preps or jocks to the level of those in ''Mean Girls''. Most nerds are normal people with just a higher IQ, and most outcasts arent like completely wierd, they just dont like to mix in with others. They also mix in sometimes, like for instance, I consider myself both a nerd, a normal person, and an outcast. However I don't dress in quirky shirts and overallls and say words like ''nifty''. I dont dress wierd and just stick to one group. I do like to hang out with just a group of friends, however, but I dont like shun otehr people.

There are many reasons why kids may become bullies. Bullies frequently target people who are different. Then, they seek to exploit those differences. They choose victims who they think are unlikely to retaliate. That means children who are overweight, wear glasses, or have obvious physical differences like big ears or severe acne are common subjects for ridicule.
This behavior is not unique to American young people. I think American filmmakers create films that speak to their experiences...possibly as the victims of bullies at some point in their lives. It is my experience in watching those films the bully is often "foiled" in the end--the take home message being that "Bullies are bad", and the good guy always wins out.
The cheerleader/jock thing makes sense because both individuals represent the school (and the students of said school); they both belong to teams, and they "perform" at the same events. If you consider the consistent interaction that occurs by virtue of their roles, it makes sense that the cheerleaders would date the jocks...

I'm confused, cuz bullies and cheerleaders are not related. I thing they were nice to me actually. Where u from? Nearly all countries have cheerleaders and jocks, and bullies. But yes, to a degree anyway.

It's true to a degree. Movies tend to overplay the whole thing but there are elements of that in American life. I was bullied quite a bit in middle school.

It's movie stereotyping, with some basis & exaggeration of the truth. Kids are kids all over the world! Movies are meant to entertain, don't believe everything you see.

Although it'snot right to "stereotype" groups of people by the actions presented in movies, those things DO occur on a regular basis.

In movies, things are exaggerated. (Sometimes to make them funny, usually to make the story work.) It is easier if you can HATE the bad guy and LOVE (or at least relate to) the good one.
No one is really that black and white - we are all shades of gray.
