Apparently the plane that was redirected to Boston was due to the old dear having a panic attack and possessing hand cream....the fact that she had matches was of no concern!!!

I think for some respondents - we all get the fact that liquids could have been potential explosives.....this is an ironic question....the basis of english humour....the fact that matches (which are usually considered dangerous) have been replaced by Nivea hand cream as enemy number 1 is frankly strange!

i really don't know, it's like they wont let you have tweezers in the cabin. What do they think you're gonna do? Pluck the pliot? But they WILL give you a glass bottle of wine.

It isn't bizzare at all. If three different terroist got on a plane and each brought an explosive chemical in three seperate forms. Say the first has a baby bottle full of the 1st component of the explosive, the second brought on a cologne bottle with the 2nd component of the bomb and the third brought on the 3rd component of the bomb in a hand cream bottle the third would add the two that were say left in a bathroom on the plane the third with the hand cream could mix it and Kaboom.
The airline is smart to be cautious especially since this is how the terrorist had planned to attack US and British Aircrafts.

I think it is all to do with tobacco companies. After 911 in the states people were still allowed to carry lighters on board. This is because they are not allowed to smoke on the plane anymore, so now the first thing smokers do after getting off the plane and getting their luggage is go and buy a packet of cigarettes and light up.

Hand cream and anything "liquid" is a potential carrier of explosive.
Matches are not banned as fuel lights are and smokers are allowed to carry matches instead of ciggarette lighters, hope this clarifies it.

Security know where they are with matches. Hand cream is something else.
What's it used for anyway? Must be something sinister, don't you think? ;o)

And about an hour after the flight starts, the airlines will give you a knife and fork.
