Where do I stand legally installing cctv outside my property?

I look after the CCTV for the company i work for , and as far as i am aware the camera can not look over any body elses land or be able to see into any body's window, this means you can look at your own front garden up to the front path/grass verge and no more. plus i would tell your neighbours (If you want them to know) that you are installing such a camera.

Signs have to be put up that CCTV is in operation.
The camera must not be able to record images on other private property and/or or public property, eg you can not set it up at your front door and record people walking pass your house who are on the pavement.
Under the data protection act anyone who thinks they have been filmed by you are legally entitled to view or have copies of the tape

In Great Britain, anything that is not prohibited in law is permitted. There is no prohibition on installation of CCTV. You may be restricted in how you may use the resulting recorded images. On the other hand, even publishing such images contemporaneously on the Internet is allowed.

The UK is the most CCTV'ed territory in the world.

If it is physically located on your property I don't see the problem. Unless you are using it to deliberately spy on people not on your property (like taking pictures of your neighbors bedroom or something).

you can have the camera on yor property and show what is going on off but can not have the camera off your property legally

nothing to stop you putting up a camera and recording.. its your property, defend it.......
