I am trying to identify a spider I saw, since I didn't get a photograph I have only the image in my head. I posted a question about it on here, but I am not able to describe it accurately enough for identification... I went through all 200+ pages of spider photos on Bug guide.net and was still unable to find any spider that looks remotely like the one I saw. If anyone knows of a site listing all species in Ontario, preferably with pictures I would be grateful because it is driving me crazy not knowing what kind of spider I saw!!! I really hate not being able to satisfy my curiosity and any suggestions would be appreciated!

Any good spider identification books you know of would be helpful as well.....as long as they are for Ontario, Canada. Thanks in advance!

For serious taxonomic information, this website below might be useful. It is essentially a rundown of spiders of quebec, published in two monographs.

Many of the pictures have both the serious taxonomic features, but also show the spider as a whole, which might be useful. Although aimed at quebec, many spider species will not recognise the quebec/ontario border, and be found in both states.

A series of books titled The Insects and arachnids
of Canada is available from Canadian Government
Publishing Centre, Supply and Services Canada,
Ottawa, Canada K1A 0S9. There are at least four
volumes on spiders in this series, by C.D. Dondale
andJ.H.Redner. While you probably wouldn't want
to buy these, they should be available in libraries.
