When you say a person is "shallow," it usually means that all he/she cares about is physical appearance. Taken a little further, it can also refer to a person who looks at life as a game to be played where your goal is to make lots of money, buy lots of stuff, marry a gorgeous guy/girl, and just be a show-off. A person who is "deep" is someone who looks at life as more than just putting on a show for others. People who are deep look for meaningful relationships with people where they share most (if not all) of their innermost thoughts, they actually think about why we're here and what we are meant to be, they're concerned about things that happen in other parts of the world (even if those events don't directly affect them), and their world doesn't revolve around them -- they believe in helping others in all kinds of ways like doing volunteer work, serving in the Peace Corps or the military, being mentors for children who don't have strong mother and/or father figures, etc. Does that help?

Shallow is when someone only skims the surface of the situation and makes an opinion based on what is "said". They aren't looking deeper into the situation, they are just seeing a small portion of it. Shallow minded means not putting too much thought into something but making a judgement on it that is normally negative.

If you are shallow, you only care about the things that are on the surface, like looks, the things somebody says or the way somebody dresses. If you are deep, you care about what's beneath the surface, like somebody's personality, what he/she does or what he/she believes in. But also, a phrase or a remark can be deep, it means that you really have to think it through to get to the bottom of it.

superficial, they make platitudes and say things that are appropriate and polite and have no interest in whether or not what they are saying is true. Someone who is deep tends to focus more on truth, in a situation and in all of life.
