I know that it is probably a normal distribution, but what is the average and what is the standard deviation? I don't want to be left with a stack of XXXL shirts.

I'd go with a 15,20,40,25 distribution (or something like it). You'll probably want more L and XL than anything. Just remember, people can go UP a size if needed...just going DOWN a size is what's hard.

Ask them their size first. If you know the 100 people. Or if it is for a group of teams get the sizes from the team captain.

Lastly, if you cant find the sizes what type of people will get the t shirts. If mainly women you may want more smaller sizes.

The standard deviation does have a diviation of it's own. Random chance. If you don't know who you are dealing with and use the standard deviation you are going to have more big people than big shirts or more small people than small shirts.

They probably have records of how much of each size of t-shirt they've sold in the past, and could point you in a good direction as to how many of each you should order for your group.

I would do a majority in Large ( if all people are adults) and a few of each other size incase there is an extreme discrepency.
