I am a taking a nutrition class, and was told that 6 months is the best time to start baby on sippy cups. Six months is typically when (most) parents begin giving their baby juice, and they stated that juice should be started from a sippy cup, and not the bottle.

It depends whether you are breastfeeding or not. My little guy is 4 months old and will only drink formula from a sippy cup not a bottle. I think it is because he associates a nipple with me and when my husband tries to give him a bottle he freaks but when he gives him a sippy cup he will drink the whole thing. he won't take a sippy from me though! Never leave a baby with a sippy cup or bottle unateanded as they can choke!

Best thing to suggest is to introduce the sippy cup when they can hold their own bottles and sit up in the high chair to self feed. They tend to take to the sippy cups better at that time. The age range is anywhere fom five months to a year, depending solely on baby. If you try and baby doesn't take to it, put it away and try again later, like in another week or so. Just keep trying, slowly, eventually they will get used to them.

My daughter has been learning to use a sippy cup for the past few weeks. She hasn't quite figured it out how to hold it at 5 months, but she does know how to drink out of it.

You can introduce a cup as young as 3 months if you like. We still give bottles; the sippy cup is just for practice (she gets water and juice in it).

My sons Dr. told us between 6 and 7 months is the perfect time to start using the sippy cup. We gave it to our son at almost 7 months. It took him about a month to grasp the idea of drinking out of it...he thought it was a new toy. He was able to feed himself with his bottle for a few months before we gave him the cup.

One of mine was completely on a sippy cup by 7 months & one by 9 months. We jsut found one that worked & took the bottles away, it wasn't too bad.

My doctor told me to start my baby on a sippy at 6 months, but he really wants no part of it. We tried it at 6 months, then took a break and have tried it again at 8 months. Still no luck.

His sitter said to let it go for now; he'll switch when he's ready. We're getting ready to move - a big move to a new state - so we'll try again after we get moved and settled.

my son started at about 6 months but he is 11 months now and he still gets bottles. i think it is good to let your baby have bottle until they are about a year old because sucking on the bottle nipple comforts them. but you should give strictly sippy cups at and after a year because it is harder to wean them onto sippies after that. the kind i use has a silicone spout that is leak proof and only lets out when they suck and the amount depends on how hard they suck. it's the Nuby one you can get it at walmart.

masmalan2004 is right. My oldest took a tippy cup at 6 mos. My younger son wasn't too interested in it until his first birthday. I took away the bottle and gave him the cup. He never wanted another bottle.
