Down South we use the word "fixing" to describe getting ready to go. "Hey ya'll, we're fixing to go to the Seven Eleven. Ya'll need any thing?" Drives yankees crazy.

A phrase like "Hey, can I have a pop."
Actually a lot of people in the US don't know what this means. Pop is a term used in the North and primarily in the Great Lakes region that means Soft drink. In other regions "pop" is commonly called soda, cola, and just straight coke. But these all mean the same thing, cold soft drinks.

This may not be exactly what you mean, but it kind of surprised me. In the US, "bold" when used to describe a person tends to be a positive word. You know, someone's bold, they're brave, they're confident. In Ireland, and maybe elsewhere, if you call someone "bold" you're telling them, basically, that they're presumptous and doing things that are rude, that they have no right to do. Misbehaving kids will be called that, and my family got a laugh out of a little cousin who was mad about getting a shot and said "You BOLD doctor!"

Well, in terms of slang, words such as "hella", "mad", "yo", "phat". Non-slang words, I am unsure. Perhaps words with different meanings, such as "bad" (can be either negative or positive) depending on the context.
