First off, you're using two programs that are known to use up alot of resources (slow your computer down), Mcafee and AOL. Also, anything related to AOL "is" spyware, get rid of it completely. Uninstall Mcafee, and replace it with "AVG" anti-virus, it's light on resources and it's FREE!! You want a good free firewall, get "SunBelt Kerio", it's TOP-RATED!! To clean out your registry after uninstalling these programs, use "CCLeaner". DO NOT, and I mean, DO NOT ever use "Internet Explorer" as your browser, it's a spyware magnet.....use "FireFox" instead.
Get "AVG" anti-virus here.......
http://www.grisoft.com/doc/1
Get "SunBelt Kerio" here........
http://www.sunbelt-software.com/
Get "CCLeaner" here........
http://www.ccleaner.com/
Get "FireFox" here.........
http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/
As far as spyware cleaners, you'll want to make sure that you install the free top-rated best. You'll need "AdAware SE", "SpyBot Search & Destroy" and "Spyware Blaster".
Get "AdAware SE" here.......
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
Get "SpyBot Search & Destroy" here........
http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html
Get "SpyWare Blaster" here.......
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
Be sure to install, update, and run, all of the above mentioned software, only after, you have uninstalled those other two programs......and be sure to keep them updated regularly, at least, twice a week. You should have a MUCH smoother running system afterwards. :)

I know of 2 very good FREE Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware programs
The first can be found at http://free.grisoft.com/
AVG Anti-virus Free and Ewido Anti-Spyware
The second can be found at http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/
This site has FREE anti-virus, anti-spyware, and a good free firewall. Other good free programs here, but I haven't tried them yet.
I've tried the programs from both locations with excellent success. I recommend either location.

I am using "Spybot Search and destroy" for spyware cleaning and more importantly "Blocking" spyware, CCleaner to clean up unwanted, useless files (generally .tmp and .log files) also It also cleans registry quite safely. Avast antivirus and Freeware version of ZoneAlarm for Firewall.
ADVANTAGE : All these are absolutely "FREEWARES" and more so because they are Fully Functional for basic users, unless you are a professional and would like to use these utilities on an "advanced user" basis. What's more, ALL are extremely light on system resources, resulting in minimal slowing down of computers.

Ensure that the drive that has the swap file (usually drive C) has at least 500mb free. If the swap file doesn't have enough space to work, it will greatly reduce the performance of the computer.

Computer Slow
Download and then run startup.exe (FREEWARE) at:
http://www.mlin.net/startupcpl.shtml......
Can't live without it and windows...
Then disable and/or uninstall whatever u don't need.
Other things to try:
1 - Disk Cleanup (removal of temp files, cookies, etc.)
2 - Defrag
3 - Registry Cleanup (CAN BE VERY RISKY!)
FROM A HARDWARE PERSPECTIVE THE BEST AND MOST COST EFFECTIVE POSSIBLE UPGRADE (IN GENERAL) IS THE ADDITION OF MORE MEMORY (RAM).
ALL ELSE FAILS - RELOAD YOUR O/S (WINDOWS) AND THEN REINSTALL ALL OTHER PROGRAMS YOU NEED/USE!
