Does anyone know of any good bands that arent mainstream? I listen to a ton of indie bands but all of a sudden they are all turning mainstream. So let me know i listen to anything but rap, screamo, and country.

Here's some of my favorites:

Sufjan Stevens, Cursive, Death Cab for Cutie (just getting mainstream now), Sigur Ros, Arcade Fire, Thursday (screamo at times, but intelligent), Elliott Smith, Desparacidos (sp), Bright Eyes, Azure Ray, Criteria.

That oughta get you started.

Why should you worry if bands are mainstream? Stop trying to be cool and listen to bands you like!! If you like them listen to them whether they're in the charts or not. I used to have a housemate that used to pretend he only liked alternative music to try and be trendy, and it made him look very desperate to be 'in'. The bands I'm listening to at the moment are Radiohead (a revival of my youth), Feeder and The Zutons. I don't care if they're mainstream or not!!!!

Try Motörhead. They're the band that kind of went mainstream but not really. The one song people know by them is "Ace of Spades" but once you get into them you realize they've got lots more than just that.
