There are two things you can try.

1) Reboot the computer.
2) Clean your mouse.
--- On the bottom of the mouse, there is a round cover.
--- Open by twisting it counterclockwise.
--- Remove the ball, (about the size of a large marble).
--- Looking inside, you will see two rollers.
--- Most likely, they are full of lint and dirt.
--- Clean with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol.
--- Reassemble.

If this fails, then purchase a new mouse, which should cost less than $12.

Good luck.

Unplug the mouse.

On the back of the mouse is a circular disk.
Turn in the direction of the arrows. When it is loose, you see the rubber ball.

Clean the ball with alcohol. Use a q-tip with alcohol and swab the inside, carefully.
You will see the gunk.

Let dry, and replace the ball and disk.
