I agree completely but then again I'm in the minority. By the way what does EMO stand for? I'm a guy in his 50's who has thought that music died at the tail end of disco (except select country but I'm not a diehard by any stretch). The basic trend I see under the surface is that, despite the usual argument that Elvis/Beates/Stones, etc. were rebels, at least they did not make you feel afraid for your personal safety as much of today's rap/Indie/Punk people do - besides, they're just so amoral and anti-social and - yes, I'll say it EVIL. It's another sign of the end of the world and I am not spamming you - that's my sincere belief. Music is supposed to uplift (I'm also into classical - Beethoven's Ninth, anyone?) but today it is a hotbed of destruction. It all began when parents walked away from their obligations and stopped disciplining their kids, so God only knows when and how it will end. And by the way, according to the definition of music Rap doesn't qualify because it is only rhythmic poetry without a melody line. Why anyone could listen to that without getting a migraine is beyond me. Perhaps their sensations have been so "thrill-stretched" that they (the listeners) can't feel the pain - or else they're masochists, cynics or nihilists. I even think AC/DC is preferable - at least you know that Angus is a devil-worshipper and you can stand tall and resist and still appreciate their talent.

It's sad to know that your interpretation of Rap/Hip Hop and Heavy Metal are considered as "garbage" or even "crap". Music is music no mater what genre. To enjoy the melody resides in the ear of the beholder. Let hope that we DONT have more music put out by coke-heads and alcoholics and stil be considered the King of Rock N Roll. What kind of example does that set?

Ask any music major and they'll tell you that rap is not music. Melody and harmony are required (or at least melody) for music and rap has neither. Sorry, but any moron can talk to a beat. You're right that music has gone way downhill since the '80's -- heck, can't anyone write their own songs anymore or do they have to keep doing remakes of someone else's tunes? So what constitues music? Just about anything but rap. Classical, jazz, country, R&B, gospel, oldies, classic rock, even heavy metal and EMO -- not enjoyable to listen to in my opinion, but it still fits the definition.

then you are a hypocrite because you are comparing old rock and roll to new rap. What about old rap that didn't have a lot of profanity in it. you ever heard of the break dance movement that was rap. Run Dmc, Whodini, Kurtis Blow, LL Cool J etc

lol ratablanca u are a big bullsh*t artist who needs to see the facts before posting.
u say ALL rap is garbage and meaningless and u say rockers speak their mind and express themselves. You obviously haven't heard of Tupac, Biggie or Immortal Technique then did ya, I think the three of them and their music reached more hearts than your rock artists combined.
yeah... some rock artists "express themselves"... by singing bout suicide, self destruction, sad k*nts.
stupid fool go suffocate to death in a mosh pit.

Be careful there, that's usually the first sign that one is "getting old".
I don't like rap either though. Try listening to some EBM. You'll feel young again.

rock is a way of thinking, a way of expressing yourself throu music and sounds, is a way of life and culture
rap is just a bunch of ghetto people trying to sound all rude while getting their manicure done... talking about killing and smoking and drinking, gettiing ladies, i bet most of them havent seen a dead body.
honestly i find no point of listening to rap, same beat, same garbage on their songs.
