No, a will has to be witnessed by two people and notarized by a notary public. Otherwise it won't stand up in a court of law!

In a few states, it is legal. Most states require that a will be attested to. That is, that it be witnessed by anywhere from one to 3 people (safest to have three). They must attest that (a) you declared it to be your will; (b) that they saw you sign it yourself; and (c) that you signed the will of your own volition.
The reason for witnessses - after you die, you cannot testify that you signed it, acknowledged it, and that you signed of your own free will.
For a simple will, to be safe, you can buy a "will kit" on line or in an office store for less than $20.00. It will often take care of most requirements. Feel free to add your own text, but the formalities suggested in the kit should be followed.
Good luck.

It does depend on the state, but if it's legal in the state you live in, you will also need a witness to sign it as well!

Yes if you have two witnesses sign it aswell. (One Witness cannot be the sole proprieter of the estate) These two witnesses are jsut to say that it is actually you making this declaration of what you want to happen to your estate, and to say that you were not under duress and were of a capable mind to make the will.
