how do i activate my instant messenger archive? i need to retrieve lost IMs?

i was sent IMs and i had to close the window due to other "issues" when i went ot message archive to retrieve them it was completely empty! its like they were never sent to me in the first place.

If you didn't have it activated at the time you can't retrieve them. It had to of been activated at the time. If it was activated go to contacts on the top of messenger then click on message archives.
