My partner and I have been together three years but in an appartment with loads of security but we've just found the perfect house and we're moving in. My partner is not a large man and he's very soft and sweet, which is why I love him but I'm scared of being in a house with no security protecting us other than the locks. I'm worried my partner won't be able to protect me if somebody broke in. I don't want to hurt his feelings by telling him this. It's a rental property so we can't install security. It's inner city with lots of crime. But we've signed the lease and it's the dream home we've always wanted. Is this an irrational fear? What should I do and has any other women out there had this fear? Thanks guys for taking the time to help me...

It's okay to be scared. However, even though it is a rental, you can probably install security if you pay for it. Talk to your landlord, because any landlord in their right mind would want any upgrade to their homes since it increases the value of the home. And even though your partner is small, when someone is trying to get what they've worked hard for or the person they love, you never know what they are capable of.

Call your local police department to research the crime statistics in that area. If there is no history of break-ins where you are moving you don't have anything to worry about.

If there is a demonstrated history of robbery, then my advice to you would be to break the lease and stay where you are. (You can claim that the owners did not completely inform you when you signed).

When you talk to your partner about it, don't bring up his size and disposition - an armed housebreaker is dangerous to anyone. Just tell him that because the house doesn't have adequate security and the area has been subject to criminal activity that you don't want to take the risks.

There are lots of homes, but only one you.

Good luck!

Tell your partner you are fearful of the area and you would feel better if there was extra security in the home. If he brings himself up then tell him it has nothing to do with him you just want to feel more secure.I was fearfull too in my apartment because I was all alone so I installed an alarm system by the entry door but I never told them i did so, and when I left i took it with me.
The one thing they did do for me was change my locks i think if you ask that they should do it.

Yes, I've been there. Talk to your partner and explain your concerns. Then talk to the owner and find out if you can agree on additional security features. I'm sure he'll agree to it if you take up the bill. Hey, it's better to be safe than sorry.

WTF! Get on with your life. Don't be paranoid about stuff like this! I don't think any other women have this fear. It's you, my dear. I suggest going to a psychiatrist or something. They can probably help with your mental illness. Who the **** can be scared of a house? Jeez! Just move in the dream home you've always wanted!!!!

You can fit some cross bars with the permission of the landlords.
IF THEY DO NOT PERMIT TO DO SO , YOU CAN CANCEL THE LEASE CONTRACT FOR THE SAME REASON.
