Of course the answer is No, but I'm wondering why most of the media attention is focused on rich, white girls when they are missing or being abducted. Why is this?

It depends on what you mean by the media. Nationally, that is the focus, yes, because Caucasians make up a majority of the US population.

And in the media in some cities there is an undercurrent of classicism and racism which permeates the media there as well.

But here in Chicago, I remember 5 years ago a couple of African American girls were abducted and killed. It was a very sad story and was all over the media here during that terrible week. I remember because that was the summer before 9/11.

Anyhow, I think it just depends.

Probably because their families have the money and power to get their situation into the media...a story about a rich girl being kidnapped is more marketable than a story about an average person being kidnapped where it's more of a possibility that they just ran away

I am a white girl and I take offense to people saying we are dumb. Unfortunately you are right in the fact that media coverage does focus on rich white people in this area. I feel it is unacceptable that they do this. Everyone is of equal importance and if you want something done about it you should start by writing to your local media and encourage others letting them know that they should cover all of these cases equally because you would like to hear about all kidnapping in your area and surrounding areas.

Not at all.
Depends on what they are kidnapped for.
For money - then I'm sure a lot are white.
But if they are being kidnapped for sex, or human traficking, then asian girls/woman are actually more popular.

I think the media in the US focuses on anyone who is famous or rich or has a rich or famous family

Yes it is true...the news prove it everyday...they have a white girl who was missing and found dead a few days later on the front page for numerous weeks but the same situation with a minority is put in small font somewhere towards the back of the newspaper with little recognition....this mother had cried to police and reporters when she reported her child missing to find her daughter nobody went looking for this black child until it was too late...now she wants justice because nobody put any effort to find this girl that was tortured for days until they finally killed her and found her body in a ditch...

because the media is controlled by those rich white families. No one in those positions give a damn about a missing black girl, or an abducted mexican girl...would they care about an asian girl kidnapped and put into organized sex crimes? no...why? Because the rich white people in power don't give a damn.
