Because when people adore someone they feel better if they think they are still alive.It's like when a child is abducted and has probably been murdered the parents refuse to believe they are dead because it makes them feel better.

It's a reverse-conspiracy theory. People belief the circumstances surrounding Elvis' death are suspect, so they form a theory to fit their "facts". And a great deal of movement in history is based not on what IS true, but rather what people BELIEVE to be true.
Perhaps a better question is, "Why do some people believe Elvis is NOT dead?"

I accept that Elvis is dead but many do not because of the hasty burial and lack of facts surrounding his overdose - usually when someone famous dies in mysterious circumstances the media write and talk about it for ever, but with Elvis there was so little information that many people still believe that he went into hiding to get off the drugs and avoid living in a publicity fish bowl for the rest of his life.

Elvis is dead, let's leave him that way, on one can ever bring him back, we enjoyed him while he was here on earth, but now it's time to finally let him go, so he can rest in peace. He was one of my favorites, but I can still listen to his wonderful music. Have a nice day.

I don't know. He was just a fat, drug addict who took to many pills one day.
Seriously though, the legend of Elvis Presley was so big that poeple have a hard time accepting that someone like this can die.

They wish he wasnt.
Same reason there are so many conspiracy theories about Princess Diana and her accident. People dont want to think that someone they admire could be snuffed out so easily.
I hasten to add I do not believe he is alive or that MI5 bumped off Di.
I would however be totally unreasonable if anything happened to Morrissey or Siouxsie Sioux
