That happens with alcoholics. He's blacking out and loses control of his bodily functions. He will probably need a medical detox, he sounds like he's pretty deep into it.

Time to quit, get adult diapers, or get plastic on the bed.

Do your friend a favor: while in detox he will be encouraged to join AA, don't let him, but make sure he has some plan in mind. AA has a 5% success rate and those who fail tend to get worse:

drinking too much alcohol and not enough fluids in the day (none alcoholic), could get blood works done at GP or hospital, in-case this is a sign of bladder problems.. needs to see GP, his tolerance - physical health may be lower.. sounds as if he needs medical advice or try AA, they do a 12 step programme. Stress and drinking just escalate unless he gets the right support and advice, but only he / she can do it..

Alcohol is a diuretic which causes a person to urinate more often. Urinating very frequently can weaken the muscles that are used for bladder control. so your friend is probably wetting the bed because his sphincter is weakened from years of frequent urination.

Tell him to exercise his PC muscles, lay off the booze and get a plastic sheet.

Its just one of the many, many problems he will go through if he carries on drinking - probably one of the more pleasant ones if truth be told. He needs to stop drinking, but he will only do that when he is ready to admit he has a problem.

Yes and eventually they start to lose control of their bowels too. I think he is maybe too drunk and lazy to get up and go to the toilet?

Its nice that he can share this problem with you but he needs to examine his own motivations and maybe stop drinking. I'd like to know where he is getting all the money for drink, too.

its probably just a case of having drank so much he doesn't wake up when he needs to go the toilet.

he should get professional help for both problems. GP & alcoholics anoymous
