The fan stays running because it is electric and controlled by the thermostat and temp. sending unit. When the engine cools enough, it will shut off automatically.

Yup, just too make sure it stays cool. But if it was overheating when you turned it off then I may not be that odd to see it run for 5 min. But it had too be way overheating. All the heat dissapates out of the coolant when you turn off the moter so it will warm up the moter a little more after it stops running. The fan just keeps that down. We dont want any melting now do we?

honda's did this, it just helps cool the coolant. it should only run for i think up to a minute or so. now if 5 minutes pass and its still running, take it to a mechanic because sounds like a relay is bad

I think it stays on for awhile to cool the engine off.

when cooled down check water level in radiator and bottle overflow its an elctric fan and it ran off a themostat which is good just as long as they go off and on regularly

designed this way gotta love'em mine lasted over 163000 miles only had to replace clutch gave it to my daughter and it still runs like a champ let it work like it supposed to BOSS
