You can create a directory and hide it. You would hide it by choosing the options for the folder, then you would have to make sure your system-wide setting is not to display hidden directories. Then, if you have NTFS as your partition format, you can assign a password to any file you would like; if not, you can always ZIP the file and set a passord on the zip file using your compression utility. Put the file into the hidden directory. Voila!
The ghetto way of hiding a file and assigning a password to it. There are applications for sale which make this a bit easier.

Rename the file and remove the extension of the file. Place in Windows or in any sub directory of windows (IN WINDOWS OPERATING SYSTEM). Leave it open do not hidden it or other things. Because it makes the file suspected..

For Better protection, compress your files with Winzip so your file will be this: file.zip
then change the file suffix to something els like dll so it will be: file.dll
now no one can not open it until they change suffix to zip again and extract it.
but remember which files you ziped and changed their suffix.
good luck
