I am a successful human being. That success has nothing to do with my economic value. I rate my value as a human based on kindness, compassion, willingness to help those in need and acceptance of others (and really a whole bunch of other feel-good type things). My economic value is secondary at best only inasmuch as greater economic value would allow me to contribute greater charitable sums.

To me, they are two totally different aspects. My value as a human being comes from being loved by God, who cared enought to send His son to die for me. My economic value depends on what job I'm doing and how much education I have, and I can choose to have more or less value depending on what I choose to do. However, society pays some jobs better than others that require more or less education or experience, so even society's valuation can be skewed compared to how I value my own skills and abilities.

What if society doesn't recognize your economic value? I've got an IQ of 152, but I'm not going to sacrifice so that an ungrateful public or corporations can freeload off my talent. If they don't pay me up front to develop my talent, let them depend on the C students to cure cancer.
