First year of High School Football sounds pretty exciting! First of all keep in mind that some of the big bulky guys will get injuries because they have big muscles, but don't stretch enough. My suggestion to you is to not sacrifice flexibility for pumped up muscles. Recently I have discovered that 'Yoga' is an awsome way to stay flexible and uninjured. If you don't want to do a yoga class once a week or so, you could watch a video, and practice some of the stretches. But at least pay attention to your coach, and do a lot of stretching (preferably after you have warmed up for 10 min. or so).

NOW to try to answer your question:
Push ups, chin ups, and sit ups are all great ways to get muscle tone. Also try Dips (ask someone at a gym what these are).
When lifting weights (bench press, latteral pull down, etc.) one way to build strength (and I think bulk) is to work with a partner and actually work with weights that may be just at or beyond what you can lift 10 times in a row for 3 sets. After your muscles start to give out, and you are no longer able to lift the weight, have your partner help you lift it, then try to hold it as you slowly let the weight down. Resisting the weight as you let it down is key. Also throughout your workout keep your lifting slow and controled. Make sure you concentrate on 'full range of motion'. IE bring your arms/legs all the way down/out/together as far as possible for most exercises. This will also help your flexibility. Also remember it is better to lift a lighter weight with good form than to lift a heavier weight with bad form.
GOOD LUCK in football this season, Run fast and Hit hard, Most of all, HAVE FUN.

I pretty much agree with skatefast2003 in that you need to especially work on your flexibility. Also one thing that most players neglect is their hammies, find a way to strengthen them. The stronger and more flexible they are the less chance you have of pulling one.

That said, concentrate on building strength, I'd reccomend hang cleans, squats, and calf raises. Do some research on them before you try them and use a partner so you don't hurt yourself, but do them in such a way that you're exploding against the weight, which will train your fast twitch muscle fibers, which are the ones you want for football. Running doesn't do you too much unless you're doing windsprints or something like that (think fast/explosive). Don't worry too much about getting big if you don't have the genitics to be; worry about getting stronger and more explosive. Go for a position that plays to your stengths.

I also reccomend working on reaction time, alot of eye hand coordination stuff. I worked on that by playing video games when I wasn't at practice, reason being the person who moves first usually wins the down.

Now, all of this stuff doens't mean anything if you don't know your part on the team. Really pay attention to your coaches, their technique, memorize your playbook, and watch and learn from the more senior players. Most often it's not how big they are, it's what they know that got them there.

depends which position you play. If you want to play line on either offense or defense you need to build up your upper body and eat a lottt but stay in shape. Put on some bulk and upper body muscles.
If you're a running back or linebacker type, you need to work on your footwork, agility, and speed. You should work out your entire body. Powerful legs, strong arms and chest, and a strong back especially for linebackers because tackling requires strong back muscles.
Wide receiver you should do sprints and a lot of running. Work out like you normally would and practice catching. if you want to play cornerback or safety you want to practice speed too.
Whatever position you play you want to run a couple miles as frequently as you can and lift often to get in shape.
Getting pumped? Get angry that's the best way. Any old grudges against other schools should be brought out, the best football players play with intensity and anger. The energy of right before a game is enough to get you pumped alone but i find some appropriate music can get you really hyped. My preference is hard rock but that's just me. You have to learn to get rid of fear. Fear holds you back, you have to let go of fear of getting hit by 200 pound seniors. You can't be scared of anyone on the football field. You do that, you could be pretty good even if you've never played football.

My best friend started out as a skinny teenager when we met in junior high school. He started lifting weights in ninth grade, and in tenth grade he began drinking protein shakes to increase his weight gain. It's not exactly rapid gain, but it helps a lot more than just eating foods high in protein. Your best bet would be to talk to your physician, visit a few health food stores or supplement stores like GNC that supply weight gain supplements and see what the general advice is before you make a decision. Also, maybe try a gym membership and talk to the trainers that actually work there - you might get tainted information from just gym members. Hope that helps!!!

im skinny so i take protein and eat alot just to look normal. then to look better than normal i lift. doesnt make me quite big enough to play football but if i were you id do the same thing and youd get the same result but probably bigger. then like the first answer said yoga, i read an article about an NFL player who does yoga and shows pics of him doing some crazy positions. so yoga isnt only for middle aged women. good luck man

High carbs, high proteins, lots of weight training, low reps high weight but work your way up. Concentrate on the thighs, calves, shoulders, neck and the 'core'. Also, run. Push to get winded and try to reach your max pulse rate. And don't forget the stretching. Very important to avoid injuries. Get plenty of sleep too. Make sure your MD OK's your routine.

Getting in shape is more than just physical. It is also an issue of your mental spiritual states. You need to make a comittment to yourself. After this a good workout regime will take you where you want to go.

You should lift weights a lot, go running around a track a lot, and definately run on a treadmill with hevy weights on, because that would get you used to running hard and long with all the heavy equipment on.

You will want to eat protien; eggs, meat, etc. to feed your muscles that you will need to be pumping up in the gym. Whatever you do, DO NOT take steriods. They are very dangerous and have horrible affects on your body.
