I'm 13 and swim and run a lot (5:02 mile), but I can't seem to build any musle, or at least it doesn't really show.

Well at your age you should not be worrying about gaining muscle because of puberty. You really should just wait until your about 15 to start muscle training since most kids at the age of 18 are at there fully developed frame. But, what you could do is up your protein intake. Depending on your weight you should be taking 1 gram of protein per pound. So lets say you weigh 130 pounds. You need to be taking in at least 130 grams of protein a day. Not only should you be taking in protein, you should also be doing weighted exercises like leg presses, calf raises, etc.,. If you want to know more you could go to www.bodybuilding.com or consult with a nutritionist to see if it would be safe for you to start lifting at your age. Being a runner is a lot harder to gain muscle because of the amount of calories you burn. Eating more calories than what you burn can help you gain weight. But by doing so you need to regulate what types of food you take in and make sure your hitting the weights and not vegging around. I know theres a lot of information to take in but it is essential for you to know all this before injuring or stunting your growth at this age. I'm 12 and i play baseball and one of the ways i find helpful to gain muscle is to eat a lot of proteen and eat something with carbs before u run or swim. (working out doesnt hurt either)

hey david, im 13 and i dont see many guy my age that have muscle but if you really want to try....

1. push-ups
2. weights
3' for abs crunches (grls like guys with nice abs)
for sports try football, soccer, or basketball

lift weights, eat lots of protein, and do not drink any kind of soft drinks. Soft drinks deteriorate muscle.
