Being straight or gay is about more than just having sex. If you are straight, then you tend to be ATTRACTED to members of the opposite sex. If you are gay, the opposite applies. Attraction basically means that you would like this person to be your "boyfriend" or "girlfriend"--or that you would like to date them--even if you never have sex! If you find yourself attracted to either gender, then you are bisexual.
BTW, there are people out there who will happily HAVE SEX with either gender--this doesn't necessarily make them bisexual or gay. The attraction and potential for love and monogamy have to be there as well.

I don't think you base this on sex, I would think you would base this on physical attraction or love. Ex: If you always been attracted to men or fell in love with man, then you're gay. If you find yourself attracted to both genders, then perhaps you're bisexual. I'm not gay, (so I can't speak for them) but I don't think you can base that on sex.

Fantasies, desires, what you look at, what you pursue if you're just having bad luck.
I also submit that kids who have never had sex who identify as straight are taken much more seriously about their stated sexual orientation than those who declare themselves gay or bi.

Sexual orientation is not about actually having sex. Straight people can have same sex sexual relationships, and gay people can have opposite sex sexual relationships.
What matters is *attraction*. That is, without even having sex, who do you WANT to have sex with? Gay people feel a natural inclination to have sex with the same sex. Straight people feel a natural inclination to have sex with the opposite sex.
Keep in mind that, regardless of whether you're gay or straight, you can derive pleasure from having sex with just about anyone. It is the attraction you feel that determines your sexuality, not the people you have sex with.

I would think being gay or lesbian is about more than just sex. I would hope there is more, or that would not be a very fulfilling lifestyle.

i guess if you were attracted to men, if you looked at a man and immediately thought guy that is guy is HOT, or if you looked at a girl and thought boy she is sexy, but then again i guess you can never really know unless you have done it.

If you have never had sex, you are neither gay or straight, you are asexual
