My friend has 2 felony charges that are pending. He has no priors. The first felony charge is a level 3 and the second felony charge is a level 7. He's a college student and is working. He currently has a public defender who is not working for him in a proper manner. Right now, he's looking for a good attorny. What can a private attorny say or do to get him at least probation out of this situation? or is it possible for him to get probation knowing he has no priors?..I want positive feed back from people who have seen, been, experienced, or can relate to this situation. Thank You.

Sorry, no positive feedback here. You need a better quality of friend. Stop hanging around people who appear to be criminals. One of Aesop's fables had the moral, "You'll be judged by the company you keep."

Stay in school.
Stay out of trouble.
Don't idolize prison culture.

Depending on the charges it's possible to get probation, If your public defender is not working for you, request to have a new one assigned to your case. Your best bet however is your own attorney. It costs some money but way worth it. The fact that he works and goes to school is a point for your side and that he has no priors. You can also write a letter to the judge that is assigned to your friends case. Let the judge know that your friend is working and going to school and trying to make something of himself/herself and that this was as stupid mistake that you have learned from. Look i got in trouble a few years ago and got 2 felony charges at one time, but had no priors, i got 5 years probation. If you want to know anything else you can email me i would be glad to help!!!

allot depends on the nature of the crime.
just saying it is a felony don't tell anyone much. level is how serious they believe it is....but level isn't the only thing that is taken in to consideration. was it a violent crime.. a crime against another person....was a weapon involved...
those are just some of the other things that will weight in on weather they get probation or prison time
