It doesnt hurt that much, just a quick sting. You need alcohol and antibacterial ointment to use on the site to keep it clean and infection free. And changing earrings doesn't hurt so long as you let the hole heal first.

Having your ears pierced is not what most women would consider a painful procedure. If you are having your ear lobes pierced it is usually done with a piercing gun which fires the stud through the skin. This hurts for a moment but then just feels warm. It's nothing to be scared of. If you are having the cartliledge (hard part) of your ear pierced make sure it is done with using a needle by a qualified body piercer. Guns on cartiledge can cause brusing which increaes the risk of infection.

To help to keep your ears clean after piercing, turn the stud once or twice a day and remove any crusty matter that forms around the exit and entry wounds around the jewellery. The crusty matter is lymph and it's fine as long as it's not yellow or green in which case it's infected. I advise you to bathe the piercing in saline which is salt water solution. You can get this from opticians, its normally sold for contact lens users. Keep your hair clean and tied back away from the piercing as it may transmit grease into the wound which gets dirt stuck to it and can cause infection. Make sure that you leave the original studs in your ears for at least six weeks before you change the jewellery, longer if you are still forming crusty matter.

You can get painless piercing, it really just feels like a pinch. I got painless pierced for my second piercing on my ears. It felt fine, im not sure how much it is because i got them done in hong kong. All you need to do to prevent infection is clean your piercing and earring every night with the Antiseptic liquid they SHOULD give you, if they dont you can buy it at Claires for $8. Changing earrings doesnt hurt as long as you dont change earrings within the first 4 months, they say you can change them earlier, but it DOES hurt and makes your ears turn red for like 3 hours. Once you get past half a year, changing earrings should just feel like a piece of metal sliding in and out of your piercing. Good luck with your first piercing!!

No, it really doesn't hurt at all. Just a quick pinch while they're doing it.
To prevent infection follow the instructions the piercing place gives you. Use the cleaning solution and keep the piercing studs in for as long as they say to. Don't forget to twist them.
Changing earrings doesn't hurt. By the time it is ok to wear other earrings, you should be fully healed.
It's always a good idea to make sure the earrings you put in are clean, and haven't been worn by somebody else.

It feels like a pinch on your ear for a couple of seconds. It hurts to lie on your ears and talk on the phone at first. To prevent infection you need to clean them and turn the earrings twice a day. Make sure not to put the backing on two tight or it may get embedded in your ear (owww! speaking from personal experience). Don't take your earrings out before the jeweler tells you too. Also don't wear hoop or dangly earrings while you sleep switch to small studs. But DON'T TAKE THE FIRST SET OUT UNTILL AFTER 6 WEEKS. Good luck

If ear piercing is done by a person who knows what he / she is doing, it won't hurt that much.
Normally before the piercing process ( which is a very short and quick) begins, the area where the piercing is to be applied, is thoroughly cleaned with a swab, and surgical spirit.
Once the holes made by the piercing have dried up, then ear rings can be changed with as much trouble as changing a pair of glasses

It hurts a bit like an injection when you have it done, but it settles down after 5-10 minutes. To keep them clean uses hydrogen peroxide diluted with water and swab the area with cotton wool (You can get this in Boots).

It doesn't hurt at all to change earrings, although it might hurt a bit when you change them for the first time, as the studs they use to pierce the ears tend to get jammed on a bit. Just remember not to change them at all for 6 weeks and turn them every day to stop them getting sticky.

It doesn't hurt that much, and its over within seconds. As for preventing infection... they will give you liquid to apply to your ears for about 8 weeks and then start taking them out after 8 weeks because I made the mistake of not doing this and my ears got slightly infected. Changing earrings is also painless because a piercing in your ear just leaves a hole and it is completely painless to take earrings in and out.

It's not that bad... no worse than getting a shot at the doctor's, really. Use your ear cleaning stuff that they give you (as instructed) to prevent infection. Changing your earrings doesn't hurt, but I think you're supposed to wait about 6 weeks before changing them for the first time.
Also, some people are allergic to cheap metals and can only wear real gold.

do not go to the mall.

go to a real piercer
http://www.bmezine.com/par-faq.html#piercing

as for preventing infection - clean it 2x daily with antibacterial soap. around the piercing, don't work the soap into it.
if you can, buy some h2ocean, it's purified salt water in an aerosol can. if not, buy some sea salt, take about 1/8 of a teaspoon for every 8oz of warm water. soak the piercing in there (an easy way to know how salty it should be, dip your finger in it - no saltier than a tear). it doesnt matter how long you soak it 5 mins, 10, 15 w/e. do it once or 2x a day.

do not use alcohol. do not you hydrogen peroxide. do not use neosporin. these all mess with piercings more than they help.

don't over clean it. make sure it's not dirty, and let it just heal on it's own.

as for pain...come on dude, if you want something done, it's worth it. just do it.
and ear piercings don't hurt...i have enough to know that.

good luck.
