My real reason is due to a work related wrist injury, I couldn't do the heavy lifting that I was required to do any longer. I don't want that to keep me from getting a job so I am not real sure what to put on a job application. Can you offer any suggestions please?
I don't want to lie or hide it, I would like to know what to write on the application that doesn't sound so negative.
I also have been off work for 3 1/2 years, I decided to take some time to regroup (pretty stressed about losing my previous job) and possibly start a family (didn't happen). I was morbidly obese when I lost my job and have lost most of my excess weight, I am fit and strong now except for my bad wrist, so I think I can explain my gap in employment OK but I am concerned about my reason for leaving.

"I left for personal reasons. I was thinking of starting a family, and unfortunately I had really let my self go. So I decided to take some time to concentrate on getting my body back together, and although we ultimately decided not to start a family I am very proud of the work I did to get myself back into good health."

This shows that you are willing to be responsible for your own situation, which is very appealing in no small part because it's so rare. You don't have to mention the wrist injury if you don't want to.

Just tell the truth!

However, why don't you choose something, which wudn't require you to explain anything. I have suggested someone else to do the same today....Sell Life Insurance. You can do it while you are waiting for a regular job and am sure you'd be able to carry on with it even when you find a regular job. Money is GOOD and timings are flexible. Most insureres will train you and best is that No Investments from your side.

You have to have a good reason ready for this question, as it can tell prospective employers a lot about you.

If you've been with ------ for a long time, you could say something like, "I've been with ----------- for __ years, and I've done a variety of roles. What I'm looking for now is a position in a company that can provide me with a good career structure and some new challenges."

It shows you're good at your job, and that you're looking to do even better. It makes you look proactive and enthusiastic.

Good luck! :o)

I think that you did a very good job of explaining right now, so I guess your issue is your resume, which putting physical injury is not bad unless you want the same kind of job.

Sometimes I write "would like to explain in person" in that blank. Then you can tell your story. Sometimes they see "injury" and skip over your application.
