I want to learn how to program in JavaScript and Java. I do not want to go to school. I want to stay at home and learn online. But i can only be on the internet for a couple hours. Someone might be trying to call. What should i do?

"Java is to Javascript what car is to carpet"

The two are not related despite the name similarity.

I also recommend w3schools
http://www.w3schools.com/js/default.asp

and sun's java tutorials
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/

if you are looking for a book that is easy and inexpensive, try the quickstart guides,

java

javascript

Try starting out with one of the Thompson Course Technology books, they are the books I was required to use for school and were very easy to follow along. The books tell you each and every step. You do know Java and JavaScript are two completly different things, right?

when i was on dial up i used to open several pages with tutorials, go offline and study them all while offline. You can find some tutorials on java script http://www.w3schools.com/js/default.asp
You can join yahoo groups for javascript where you can get some help if you have questions. I would recommend buying a textbook as well.
I also think there is a program you can download that tells you if someone is calling, so that you can disconnect quickly.

While Java and JavaScript are similar in that they both use a C style syntax their application is very different.

My advice for learning JavaScript is to start with the w3schools tutorials( http://www.w3schools.com/js/default.asp ) and work your way up.

If you want to learn JavaScript , then first you have to know a little bit of Java.
There are many books on Java by Herbert Schildt .
Grab one and get someone who knows Java to help you.
Actually , if you know OOP then Java's very easy..
