I went to the doctor today and am 33 weeks pregnant. He said that I am having a big baby. I asked him "around 8 pounds?" He said"HAHAHA......that would be a tiny baby compared to what your gonna have!" Wow! I am nervous. Lucky for me I am having a scheduled C-section on Oct. 3,2006. Has anyone else had big babies like this and what size clothing do you think he will be wearing when he is born? 0-3 months or possibly 3-6 months?

This is my 3rd C-section, so I pretty much know what is going to happen. My first son was 9 lbs 14 oz, then my last baby was 6 lbs 11 oz, but he passed away, due to not being formed internally.

They said mine would be 11 lbs, but she came out 8lbs 14 oz, which is almost 9 lbs, still a big baby. They are usually off from what I understand. I also had a scheduled c-sec because of it. When he is born he will fit into 0-3 months, but probablay at 2 months he will be in 3-6 months. Mine is now 4-1/2 months (almost 16 lbs) in 6 month clothes. Also the clothes vary sooo much. I swear they just throw whatever tag on them.

my kids were both 7 pounds 1oz newborn clothes were big so you know 0-3 is a Lil bigger then clothes saying NEWBORN. I think newborn might be to small you should be FINE with 0-3 even with a 10 pound baby my kids were about 2 months before 0-3 fit. As someone else said don't buy a lot thou they grow super fast I HONESTLY think 6-9 would be a LOT too big. Like 16-20 pounds fit that size you will not have a 16 pound baby. I am a mom of 2 pregnant with #3 aunt to many i've never seen a newborn fit 6 - 9 months maybe a 4 moths could fit that size not a newborn. GOOD LUCK

How does your doctor know exactly how big your baby is? At my last ultrasound 3 weeks before I delivered (by c-section because my daughter was breech), they estimated her at about 7 lbs. I delivered a 9 lb. 4 oz. baby girl. I had gestational diabetes, which most likely contributed to it, but I controlled it with diet (I only gained 28 lbs. with my pregnancy), so it's not like I went on some eating binge those last 3 weeks. Anyway, my daughter was long 21-1/2", so she didn't fit in nb clothes long. I would say 0-3 mo. Best wishes on a happy, healthy baby - no matter what the size!

BTW - There was a comment questioning the doctors decision to do a c-section. I was disappointed at first when I learned I had to have one, but after talking with several women who had both, they all said they prefer the c-section. They said they healed faster. My recovery was much easier than I ever anticipated. Just didn't want you to worry about it. Congratulations!

Congratulations!

First off, know that sometimes the professionals are off on the exact size of your baby. Mine was the opposite of yours. The L&D nurse said she would be around 7 1/2 pounds, and she was 8 pounds 12 ounces!

But if you know you are going to be having a big baby, regardless of the exact size, don't even bother with the 0-3 size clothes! I would suggest the 6-9 month size onsies and sleepers. It is always better to have them too big since they will grow into the bigger sizes. You may want to buy some 3-6 month onsies to have on hand, but don't take them out of the package! Wash several of the 6-9 mo size onesies and sleepers and take those to the hospital. If they are just ridiculously huge, you can always have someone open the backup 3-6 mo ones and wash them up for you. And if the 6-9 month fits, you have someone exchange the little ones for the big ones.

Good luck!

My son was 9lb 6oz and I delivered him vaginally bc we didnt know that he was gonna be that big. SO you are lucky your doctor recognized this so early! My poor son got stuck on the way out and ended up being born with out a heart beat and not breathing. Luckily he was recussitated and is fine today, but what a scary and traumatic birth and first day for us!!

I think you said your son was 9lb 14oz, so this may not help much. But our son was in 0-3 for like a month then went into 3-6 for a week, and was completely in 6-9 by the time he was 4 months. I was bummed bc we had a lot of super cute clothes for him early on that we never got ot use. Luckily, I am expecting twin boys right now, and they will be born by 35 weeks bc of some complications. They are doing quite well, so the 35 weeker thingy doesnt scare me too bad. At least I know that we will get use outta their older brothers clothes that he just blasted through!

First of all, I think that it is really unprofessional for a MALE doctor laugh when he tells you that you may be having a large baby. But that's besides the point. A good friend of mine recently gave birth to an almost 11 pound baby, and she skipped over small clothes right into 3-6m stuff. She probably could have worn some 0-3 month stuff, but only for a short while. It also depends on the clothes... some brands run bigger than others. Also, you'll have more flexibility if you aren't putting on a lot of one-piece items. My kids always grew out of those way ahead of other clothes (like pants and shirts).

YIKES girl!! Possibly your baby might wear a 0-3 month, but not for long. My sister delivered a boy in December that weighed 10 pounds! I was there during the delivery, and dang...that's all the birth control I needed!!! Holy cow!!! BIG BOY!!! First off, remember, your doc could be wrong, and could be teasing. And as for the c-section...good to hear that! I was 5'3" and about 106 when I gt pregnant with my second baby. She was 9lb 6.5 oz. and I had her with no meds...not by choice though!!! I've had a c-section, so now if by a freak chance I have a baby over about 7 pounds...I'm saying sign me up for c-section!!! Good luck!!! (Oh ...that birth control issue didn't last long though...we are expecting..LOL!!)

it definatly wouldnt hurt to buy some 3-6 month clothing espically if your doc laughed when you said an 8lb baby. It's just an estimation though keep that in mind, they said my daughter was gonna be like a 6lb baby but she ended up 7lbs 6ounces, not a big difference but my doc was shocked. I found that 0-3 month clothing didn't last very long with my daughter, I noticed looking at labels the other day on newborn clothing that some of it up to 8lbs so keep an eye on that. Good Luck!!!

Congrats! Now, don't get yourself all worried. Just becuase your doc said the baby was gonna be big don't mean anything. Just wait to see your baby before you get all worked up about the size. I have heard of peopel being told they had to have the baby early becuase it was sooo big only to have a 6, 7 or 8 lb baby. I had 2 babies over 8 lbs(close to 9) & had no problems.

my god, all he did was laugh? did he give u a number? I'd smack him, that's so scary!

My son was 9 1/2 pounds and I had him naturally. I actually thought he was a tiny baby because I was used to my 18m old daughter. I thought I had barely grown during my pregnancy and couldn't understand why people's eyes would bulge out when they'd see how huge I was. I was so wacked.

Anyway, don't bother buying the 0-3 months. Sound like u won't need them at all. My big boy was only in them for about a week so I'm sure yours won't even fit in them.
