"Beats me" is a slang term for I don't know... its that basic.... Imagine someone asking you a question and you don't know the answer so naturally you say "I don't know" however in slang it be "Beats me."

it means i dont know. a funny story about my borther when he was in 2rd grade every time the teacher asked a question. My borther would raise his hand and the teacher would call on him and just to make his friends laugh would say "BEATS ME".lol
