I am currently in accounting and I am getting fed up of it, also can't stand being closed up in an office surrounding any more...

I am a people person, and I can't explain how fullfield I feel when I help a person out.....It's like drugs.... I am looking to do something that where at the end of the day I feel like I've made a difference.....

I need suggestions....I was thinking about a paramedic, but I am sure that there are so many other options out there....

Thanks! It's greatly appreciated!

Good for you! The journey of a thousand miles begins with a step in the desired direction. Some simple do's and don'ts for career changing successfully.

1. DO brainstorm freely and completely before you narrow a direction.
2. DON't stay in a job or select a job because you know how to get it or do it. To find a job you want to do required more introspection, focus and decision.
3. Do network with others and ask them what they like about their work, this type of discussion will help you get clear on alternative possibilities, and also who you are if not an accountant. :D
4. Don't stop at one interview and try to learn the good and bad, desires and detractors , consider an informational interview with someone who has done what you aspire to do. Many LIKE to talk about their work, you can get advise for as little as a cup of coffee and get to know someone who has "Been There/Done that"
5. Do try linkedin.com as a resource for finding jobs or people who might work in your ideal jobs.

Wishing you all the career success you can manage!

An awesome opportunity for you would be in Network Marketing. There are many opportunities out there with home based businesses where you can work it how you want to. If you'd rather stay at home and do the business, you can; If you rather be out and about among other people helping them, you can do that too. I started with www.bedavis1.mywayout.net. I'm able to do this in my own time and I don't have to worry about clocking in or getting up at a certain time. Look around on the net! Check them out researching and checking with the BBB to see if they're legit or had any complaints about the company. You never know what you'll find til you find it. Think about what you're attracting in your life. What do you really want?
Good luck on your endeavor!

There are lots and lots of options for you. You might consider meeting with a career counselor - heck, you might even consider becoming a career counselor! Coaching, counseling, psychology, Organizational Development work, training, social work, etc... all these fields offer lots of opportunity.

One key is to really spend some time figuring out what your values REALLY are, and what your interests and aptitudes really are as well (that's why a career counselor can help; they'll give you lots of assignments and assessments to help you focus your search). Once you've figured that stuff out, it's easier to start looking for the right kind of work.

Good luck. I made this kind of transition myself about five years ago and went back to school for a Master's Degree. I now have a job I (generally) love, and am doing well. If I can do it, you definitely can do it too.

I'm an accountant as well... not fed up (although on any given day....)

It seems to me that you have to find something that you really want first and then jump into it. Many other careers are more people oriented but.... the grass is always greener on the other side.

I think one of the things that makes you good at something is the sum of your experiences. It seems like you wouldnt' get a chance to have much of a sum if you drift from place to place...

Good luck

Well as long as you're in the business field you're always going to be closed up in an office somewhere, even in business law (as I was going to suggest before I read that part).

If you go into a new career you're going to have to take a lot of new classes and it could very well take years to get yourself going in a new direction. But otherwise I don't have many suggestions, maybe just a receptionist at a front desk at a small business or something or something like it.

I suggest you explore the option of getting yourself an MBA. You having an accounting background can help you immensely plus having an MBA can make a difference to being out of the room and among people or even leading them. Hope that helps.

Health care, senior centers, children's day care, animal care. You could keep the accounting job and volunteer after work, or sign up to be a big sister. Lots of options. I hope you find something your looking for. Good luck.
