This is a really good question; am gay and a therapist so I have dealt with this many times. There is a school of thought that says homosexuality in males often is prevalent when there is no stable father figure during the sexual development years (2-6) OR there was abuse - for lesbians, we can counter this. Recent studies that have been released show that 7 out of 10 homosexuals did not have stable father figures during those years and 2% were abuse victims.

No I don't believe it is and I have several gay friends so I'm not talking without having some knowledge. Think about this, if you are born a heterosexual person, grow up that way, attracted to the opposite sex and know how you feel about that RIGHT this minute.....Do you really think you could switch to the other side??? No way, it's absurd. You could no more do that than you would expect a gay person to. You might run across people who will tell you they tried it once or twice out of curiosity (usually while teens or early 20's) and I can chalk that up to raging hormones. But as far as living a homosexual lifestyle. You are born that way and no amount of PRAYING or denying will ever change it. That's what I believe..........

Scientific comparisons of brain scans show conclusively that homosexuality is inborn. The brains of gay men show structures in certain regions that differ dramatically from those of straight men but closely resemble similar structures in the brains of straight women. (Same, or more accurately, corresponding, results for lesbians)
A gay man doesn't choose to be gay any more than I chose to be straight, although thank goodness being straight is easier.
Damn shame that homosexuals have to live with the nonsense of the scientifically unaware.

Stimuli that elicit or evoke a sexual response are many and varied. Some people get turned on to one thing and others to different stimuli. Much of human behavior is accidentally conditioned within the perameters of our society. A preference for one color over another is not reflex or genetically determined. One's history of reinforcement may include exposure to erotic stimuli and become accidentally paired with physical arousal. Whether homosexuality is a choice is difficult to ascertain. It is possible, however, to experiment with shaping sexual responses to new stimuli. Some types of stimuli are fairly durable in eliciting a sexual response. It is also possible to introduce new eliciting stimuli.
Since much of sexual behavior for Christians is taboo or considered evil, many Christians pair sexual arousal with the taboo. It might be fairly easy to change an eliciting stimulus from spanking to sniffing stranger's underwear stolen from neighborhood clothes lines. The fundamental stimulus is the excitement of doing the taboo.
The fact that most adolescents are highly aroused almost all of the time makes it easy to see how accidental conditiong could take place.
Does a person choose to expose themselves to accidental conditioning. Probably not. It just happens.
Likewise, if there is a powerful genetic component to potential arousal patterns, it can hardly be considered a choice.
Is it possible to deliberately condition oneself to be aroused by homosexual stimuli. I think so. For example, one could masturbate looking at one form of stimuli that is currently conditioned and have a new stimulus present. Just befor orgasm, one could deliberately focus on the new stimuli and reinforce the eliciting qualities by orgasm.
Short question, long answer. I hope this helps you consider new variables in your search for a well informed understanding.

One of the greatest questions of all-time! In my opinion, yes and no! I believe a homosexual act doesn't necessarily make you a homosexual. But, I also believe some people are born to be a homosexual. They just haven't figured it out yet!

yes, it is a choice. If gays were born tht way, God would not condemn it. If you have a tendency towards homosexuality, you are to turn away from it. The same with fornication, adultery, stealing, etc. Nowadays, all of these are common. People (heterosexual or homosexual) are unrestrained in their lusts. If one repents, turns away from his/her sin and turns to God instead, God will save them. His salvation is for all and can wash away any sin including any sexual sin.
