either he was freaking careless, or just didn't have the money to get a haircut when he started out. anyways, when he saw the huge response his hairstyle was getting (at times more than his performance, i daresay) he must've thought, hell , why not keep it??!!
if you're in india, just look at him in the tvs star city ad and see the mess that he call his hair!

Yeah, to be very sincere I am not answering for 10 points so I should comment rightly.
Dhoni's hair style really dont suites to his character and his face and style.
He should have 'tall spikes'
He is black and he is having long red hair, ahhhh... disgusting
