He is not in pain or even crying, but just a small clear scratch on it. He can see fine.

My son recently got an abrasion to his eye too. At first i just watched it because i didn't see a cut or any bleeding it was just red. He started to complain that it really hurt and he wore glasses because the light bothered it. So i went to K-mart to find some drops or something like that and i asked the pharmacist what was best for it he said to get a soothing gel by bush and loom (or whatever it's called) and some eye patches to keep it covered. The next day i went to work and when i got home my sister-in-law (whom was watching him during summer) had not took the eye patch off once to check it or clean it or anything so when i removed the patch it was really red and there was some gunk or mucus in it like yellowish. So i took him home washed it out and decided i should take him to ER since he was still complaining that it hurt so the doc there gave him an anti-biotic and some numbing drops and told me the reason it got bad was because i put the eye patches on it. SO anyways you should wash it give him some Tylenol if needed and just let it fix it self. AND DON'T EVER ask a pharmacist THEY ARE NOT DOCTORS!!!!

The cornea heals faster than almost any part of the body, and the tears are a natural cleaner and antiseptic. Probably it will heal in a few days. With a scratched cornea, there is a possibility of infection, so you might go to the doctor for eye drops to prevent this. Also the eye may get irritated before it heals. When my 7-year old wanted to rub her eye, I had her wear an eye patch for a day or two, which she didn't like.

I would take him to the emergency room and have a doctor look at it. They will put drops in his eye to numb it and then put some orange or red colored drops into the eye so they can see where the cut is. Most likely, they will make sure that his Tetanus shots are up to date and either give him a booster, if needed or let him go without one. Then when he is discharged, he will most likely be given an antibiotic eye drops and maybe depending on his age, maybe a pain killer (if hes young, tell you to give him some Tylenol, Advil or Motrin) and then tell you to put a cold compress on his eye for a couple of days.

He needs to be evaluated immediately by an ophthalmologist. Corneal tears can lead to eye and even systemic infection. The result could be a loss of vision or other health problems. Go to the nearest emergency room.

It doesn't matter that he's not in pain or can see just fine. If you don't take him to the doctor immediately, it can escalate into something far more serious. So do your son a favour and take him to the doctor!

YOU NEED TO BRING HIM TO THE DOCTOR BEFORE IT GETS INFECTED!
I lost partial vision in my right eye when I was younger from a fingernail to the eye. I wasn't brought to a doctor for it.

is he having any trouble seeing, or does it hurt him?
if the answer to both of those questions is no, then don't worry it'll heal on it's own

corneal scratches are fairly common, and unless it's sever or causing complications, they won't do anything for them
