Do NOT use anything with ammonia, because urine is mostly ammonia. Go to a discount store and get the spray for urine odor removal in the pet supply department. If you are SURE that the urine has NOT penetrated the mattress, a generous application of the spray and a good airing (until it is totally dry), should remove the odor. If urine has penetrated the mattress pad, you would have to discard it. You deserve a MAJOR applause for caring for your Aunt. God Bless You and Good Luck....

Here's a link to a product I think will help you. You can read all it's info there. It was recommended to me by an older woman who has managed a laundrymat for most of her life. They use it to clean up things that have been in disasters like fire, flooding and sewage backup. I can buy it locally at some grocery stores in a spray bottle but I prefer to get the gallon size at SAM's club which also comes with a spray bottle attached to the side. I use it in my washer which is a front loader that uses less water than the normal top loading machines. I add 1/4 cup. There are directions for use on mattresses on the bottle and probably on the site too. Good Luck!

My brother wet the bed for years....YEARS. The best thing to do if you dont want to or cant afford to buy a new mattress is to stick it out in the sun. ALL DAY LONG. The sun will kill the smell to almost not noticable. After you do this, go to a store and get a vinyl/plastic mattress cover and put it on the bed. NEXT time whomever pees the bed if they are old enough to (and 8 is old enough) make them wash the sheets. Dont embarrass the kid if they are older or get on to them as this will just make things worse.

Get a spray bottle, fill it with 2 parts Heinz Vinegar and the rest water. Spray it down every day til the smell is gone. Meanwhile place Bounce fabric sheets between the mattress and boxspring.

Pet stores and veterinarians sell products to remove urine odor without causing damage. The longer the urine has been there, the harder to remove. I like Nature's Miracle and Odor Eliminator, but there are others.

wash the stained portion with a strong sweet scented detergent properly and allow to dry if possible by the sun rays. that has a natural refreshing. if it doesnt work, take it to the laundry for a professional and better treatment

Try Febreeze maybe? Or a paste of OxyClean & hot water. Scrub it for a bit.
