How "liberal?" There are degrees. You can't just pigeon-hole everybody into only 3 categories: conservative, moderate, and liberal. There have been times when I've been tempted to use those 3 categories for simplicity's sake, but those 3 are still over-simplified.
I don't think that there are any "liberal Republicans" or "conservative Democrats" left in Congress. There are no Republicans who vote like Ted Kennedy and there are no Democrats who vote like James Inhofe. The MOST liberal of Republicans and the MOST conservative of Democrats can all be called moderates on the general political spectrum.

If I had my perfect nation:
1. Force all children to go to non-combat jobs or training in the miltiary for 2 years after high school.
2. I'd let a lot more drugs be publicly available, specially anything that's natural in the ground and not chemically compounded. Chemical compounds may have to be regulated ("tea houses" were you go stay at for a whole day and they have all sort of entertainment, etc.)
3. I wouldn't go to war as much, instead, spend more time trying to understand the needs and desires of another country; and trying to come to a statement.
4. I'd let women choose, but I'd let men opt out paying for the child support on certain conditions.
5. I'd never tax the wealth, only income, but I'd simplify the tax system for the lower classes.
6. I'd support people having guns, many many guns.

I feel liberal republican a lot.... I'm in the middle of making huge changes to my life - I've cut down my spending and am living on 50% of my income - throwing the rest into stocks, funds, etc; I have plans for a masters, I want to be an executive. I agree with a lot of very very republican things...
Except, I grew up in a household with 2 kids and 1 parent that made 13,000 a year from social security. I grew up very poor. I have a strong distaste for republicans. It's been very difficult for me to open up to them, and I still feel that the liberal side is my "home town."
So, I'm in my way up the repub side, supporting SOME repub movements because of security to my own progress and future.... but, I want to instigate some huge liberal ideals that repubs right now think they are "part of the devil."
So who knows, we'll see.
/consider myself Liberal Republican

Yes, there are 5 Liberal Republicans in Congress from the Yankee North East.
They voted with the Democrats to raise taxes on us working people.

There are several Republicans in the Senate I know of who are Republicans but who don't necessarily lean as far to the right as others might (correct me if I'm wrong about any of them):
Arlen Specter
Chuck Hagel
Richard Lugar
John McCain (although this may no longer be true)
I know there are others but these four seem to be the only ones I can think of right now.

Yeah...haven't you ever heard of Joe Lieberman..lol, he started as a democrat, then became an independent...which in turn helps the Republican party by pulling votes away from the next democratic candidate, so I think I would now classify him as a Liberal Republican. I better be careful though, because I might blow his cover.
