ALL of the 2nd trimester OB ultrasounds we do in the facility where I work take 45-60 minutes. There is so much to document that it can be time consuming. Also, if the baby is not cooperating, it can take quite awhile to document all the images we need. If something abnormal was found at your first scan, you would know about it by now.

I am surprised you got one at 14 weeks. Typically, most docs opt for one at 20 weeks, or as close to it as they can get. At this appointment there will be all the ultrasound checks on the baby for size, development of the heart, brain, skeleton, muscles (what they can see), placenta, and amniotic fluid quantities. This is also the screening where they might be able to tell you the baby's gender, if you want to know (that will depend if baby will expose itself or not!). They also view baby's movements and monitor the blood flow back and forth through the umbilical cord. If there was any cause for concern, the midwife or ultrasound tech would have told you about that. They do not want in any way what-so-ever to keep important information from you. In the meantime, if you have any questions at all, call your midwife or nurse and ask away! That is what they are there for, to help you throughout the entire pregnancy, not just the delivery! Best wishes!

They don't tell you the results they cant because if there wrong thats a major lawsuit..Your doctor will tell you and if you do have a midwife there going to want to give you high risk ultrasounds just because your not going to be in the hospital and they want to be sure everythings going to be okay...i wouldn't get worried to much be thankful that's a good thing..

well first off depending on how the baby would be sitting could depend on how long your 20 week ultrasound would take when you are 20 weeks they are looking at EVERYTHING and trying to see if something look weird or outta place because you were 14 weeks it was shorter because your baby is growing and they would not be able to see everything they need to see that is why 20 week uktrasounds take longer because they have more to look at and they may be able to tell the sex of the baby at this time

I have had many high risk pregnancies and none of them took an hour. The half hour seems about right.
Maybe your midwife was talking about the whole thing - the wait and the ultrasound.

Our 2nd utltra sound was at 12 weeks 6 days. they measuer the baby and the uterus to get the age. we couldnt tell the sex as the baby moved alot and had its feet crossed and sat a lot, but would occasionaly jump. maybe 15 minutes. we got about 9 pictures. my wife is high risk at 36 years of age, but blood work came back good. we go on the 21st for the 3rd ultra sound. which is 20 weeks. this is normal. you seem to be fine, i guess. i dont know your details, but those are mine.

Not necessarily! Its probably because the baby was too small to really do much at 14 weeks. So she probably scheduled at 20 weeks to do all the measurements and the baby's heartbeat and to possibly even tell you what you're having.

You should call your hospital & ask. I'm not sure if the information that you read is correct, but my ultrasounds never lasted that long. They were usually about 10 minutes long & the lognest was about 20 minutes.

you should not worry about it. they just say that incase it takes longer for some reason because the baby could be moving around and need to get pictures of every organ and i had 3 kids and some times my ultra sounds would take 20 min and some 45, also depends on who is doing them, experience wise.
Good luck.

My ultrasounds were about 1/2 hr. The technicians arent supposed to tell you if something is wrong, so call your OB ASAP.
