Y x 0.08 = 232.00

Y x 8/100 = 232.00

Y = (232 x 100)/8

Y = 2900

thaKing is right, divide 232.00 by .08 but be very careful with the decimal places if you're doing it by hand. Also the final answer should be in dollars, so don't forget the dollar sign either.

Think it this way. If you have an equation such that

LHS = RHS,

then add, subtract, multiply or divide both sides by the same number maintains the equality. Now, divide both sides by 0.08

Y * 0.08 / 0.08 = $232 / 0.08
==> Y = 2900.

Same number, but easy-to-understand reasoning.

Divide both sides by .08

y*.08/.08=232/.08
y=2900

It means 0.08 lb of Y cost = $232.00. What is the rate of Y per lb
y(0.08) = $232
Divide both side by 0.08, then
Y= $2900.00/lb

Divide both sides by .08 and you get Y = $2900

Alternatively, you need Y on its own on one side of the equation, and numbers on the other. So you take the 0.8 over the other side of the equation and it switches from a multiplication to a division.

i.e. Y = 232 / 0.8 = ... well, you do the maths!
