They wouldn't mind at all but Pluto will only be demoted to 'Dwarf Ice Planet' which is still a higher rank than asteroid.

What on Earth for? The International Astronomical Union is the organization that decides whether Pluto is a planet or not. If anything, NASA sending a spacecraft to Pluto decreases the likelihood of demoting it, since a scientific probe returning pictures and data from Pluto will raise people's interest in it.
