It is really NOT your place to say ANYTHING of this sort to your mother-in-law unless you are really really close. Your wife HAS to do the talking. It will sound soooo much better coming from her daughter than any son. Speaking to her about it is okay. But you shouldn't be the one doing the talking. Why would you want to speak to her about it? Does it embarrass you? I would only say something if there are children in the house, otherwise I say let her have her pleasure. If the sound bothers you, run a fan at night or something to make "white nose" to block it out. If you have to say something, a good way to not embarrass anyone might be to casually mention that any sounds in your basement carry through your house, and hopefully she should get the idea.
